MARCH

Source: Fashiontoast

Sorry for the lack of posts recently. I've had a crazy few weeks, including my 21st birthday! Plus i have 2 months left of uni FOREVER, so the work is starting to mount up! But somehow, i am excited. Me, and my housemates Lisa and Sarah are in the Final 10 in the UK for L'Oreal Brandstorm, so have lost of exciting stuff planned, including a day at an advertising agency in london next week! Plus, i am at home for part of the easter holidays at the moment, and i literally haven't left the house as none of my friends are back from uni yet...all its making me want to do is shop...but has anyone else noticed there is absolutely NOTHING in the shops at the moment... BOO

A Digital Revolution...

Last week Vogue launched its first ever app for the iPad, and so far it looks like its been a big hit among the fashion crowds. The app features the amazing December 'Star' issue and is a like for like copy of the magazine but has loads of extra features like behind the scene videos and exciting augumented reality features, all for £3.99. However, as it stands this Vogue app is unfortunatly a one off...
I am currently studying the future of fashion for my dissertation and after massive amounts of reading up on the subject of the future of magazines i find it really interesting to see how magazines (and brands) are finally utilising new technology in order to create exciting and compelling environments for consumers. I think magazines will begin to really invest time into creating magazine apps, and although i think its really exciting to be able to access more inspirational content, i love the feeling of actually having a physical Vogue arrive on my doorstep and being able to keep a stack of them that i can always refer back to.
If you have any thoughts on the subject let me know...!

"The cover of the app is the same as the magazine, but a button appears that links to a little behind-the-scenes movie that Mario Testino’s team made of his shoot with Emma Watson. There are several behind-the-scenes videos of different elements of Vogue shoots, including a how-to video with Lisa Eldridge that list the make-up products used in one of the shoots.
The ‘Fashion Player’ takes our fashion shoots and enhances them, turning them into multi-sensory experiences with music and moving images.
And, there is also ‘Vogue Shops’ which takes all the front-of-book and back-of-book content that’s not in fashion shoots and sorts it by product type. At the moment, it does not actually link out to shopping sites or our own fashion shop, but this could happen in the future."

"There is also a section of augmented advertising opportunities using rich media which have been taken by Burberry, Chanel, Fendi, Gucci, Parfum Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren and Tiffany. Augmented options vary from Burberry — where the model moves her head as you run your finger across the app — to high definition films. This package is available at an extra cost. Opportunities have been deliberately limited to ensure these campaigns stand out."

Work.

For my DVC dissertation i have chosen to investigate the Future of Fashion, in particular looking at how brands are currently utalising the internet and what new technology will be influencing fashion brands in the future. This has lead me to research things like Fashion Film, which i have become to be facinated by, Live Streaming of fashion shows, How brands are using Mobile Phones and crazy new technology like 'try it on' and 'Sourcemap 0.8' If you have any thoughts, let me know!
Check out the Chanel 'Remember Me' film by Karl Lagerfeld. One of my favourites.

Friday is my uni deadline so the past few weeks have been mental. Lisa and i have literally JUST finished our report and it is my favourite piece of uni work so far! I'll post some screen shots of it at some point. We were chosen to present our presentation to the Brand Manager at Jonathan Aston, and did that this morning- i think it went well! Now it's just the finishing touches to my portfolio then i am DONE!!!! i can't believe 2nd year is over already.

Online V Offline?

Our current project on Jonathan Aston is going well so far, despite how awful the brand is. Today we had a lecture by this really cool web designer, and I'd like to say i have learnt a lot today. Lisa and i were researching and oh.my all this new technology that's out there is mind-blowing. You can literally do anything and everything from your laptop, or even phone!? It astounds me. But really it kind of inspires me and i actually cant wait to get back to researching after my noodles and tea.
On Monday we had a lecture by Sally Bain- ex drapers, Sunday times, mintel, verdict, woman and home, well she has worked everywhere. It was on Magazines, Journals, Printed Media as channels of advertising and again i learnt so much! Its crazy how fast the circulation of newspapers (minus the Daily Star..egh) and magazines are declining, and how online is massively, massively increasing.
I don't really know where i sit amongst all this, i literally love having a paper copy of Vogue that i can spend hours holding and looking at little details- even though you can find all my favourite bits- the photo shoots- online for free. It will be really interesting to see what the future holds for printed media..

Inspiration

Source: weheartit

I've been doing some research for our new uni project on hoisery brand Jonathan Aston. I picked out some of my favourite images from weheartit.com to get some inspiration for our project and to see what kind of consumer is buying tights, and how they are using them. There's this whole world of tights out there that i've discoverd! I think an amazing pair of tights can really make an image, and i love the poses and shapes that have been created in these photos to allow maximum focus on the tights.

Topman Design Update.

Moodboard i made showing the structure of the Topman Portfolio.
We have our Topman Design presentation tomorrow and to say i feel a little unprepared is an understatement.
Firstly i don't think anyone understood the actual brief until a week ago, plus it's been quite hard to work in our new group. I was actually excited to do a project on Topman Design and looking into menswear etc, but with everything that's happened i just feel all bleeegh. However, i think I've come a little too addicted to the research file we have to do...
Moan over.

Lara

As much as i hate to admit this, Lara looks incredible in this image. It reminds me of a photo i blogged a while ago of Kate Moss.

I had a tutorial in DVC the other day to discuss our 3rd year dissertation. All this blogging of fashion imagery has inspired me to consider writing about something to do with this subject. I have no idea where to begin or what to focus on, and i feel like my summer is going to suck cause of the stess of dissertation stuff. But maybe if i continue all this soemthing dissertation like will come out of it :)

Topman Design

Lisa and I have officially started our Topman Design project today.
Topman Design was launched in Autumn/Winter 2005 and has become a directional premium collection, stocked online at www.topman.com, the London Oxford Circus and New York Flagships as well as Key international stores including La Foret in Tokyo, Incu in Sydney, and Shine in Hong Kong. With a growing and almost cult following, the collections have evolved over the seasons. Topman Design also features at London Fashion Week, giving them a massive competitive advantage.
Today we made (another!) blog which i may, or may not share ith you!? Definitely excited for this brief, maybe because we get to research men all day long who knows...!? Today we also had a lecture given by Jumana Sodawala, the Senior Buyer and Topman. It was really interesting to find out the behind the scenes process and lead times etc.
I feel like i've learnt alot today...
P.s Happy 100th Post!

L'Oreal

Yesterday was the most amazing, scary, nerve raking, boiling, fun day! The day had finally come to present our Shu Uemura presentation at L'Oreal Headquarters in London. So, of course, we were last and had to sit through every ones amazing presentations, then finally it was our turn! It went really well and guess what, they chose us as the winners!!! Oh.My.God. :) I managed to not mess up the clicking thank god! but my lines, yup i messed up those of course but not in a too obvious way i hope!! Anyways it was quite possibly the best experience ever, the atmosphere there was amazing. I'm so grateful we got to go! I WANT/HAVE to work there!! and it's definitely inspired me to get out there and start applying for more work experience.
Wow.

L'Oreal here we come...

So, today has been stressful! Before Christmas we had to present a new Marketing Strategy for the amazing luxury cosmetics brand Shu Uemura (owned by L'Oreal.) This was a live project with L'Oreal and 4 winning groups from my course got the chance to present to L'Oreal Headquarters. So amazingly me and my group were one of these 4 gropus and we're going to L'Oreal THIS Friday. Oh.My.Gosh i'm so excited. Today we had a run through with our tutor to make any small changes, and yes, it's been a long day. I'm scared of course, but wow it's such an incredible opporunity. I'll let you know how we get on. Wish me luck!

Shu Uemura

Our next project this year is a live project for L'oreal. Definitely been waiting for this project! Shu Uemura was the chosen brand. I Love it- massive contrast from Universal Works! Shu Uemura originated in 1958 by Mr. Shu Uemura himself. Shu Umeura began his career as a make up artist to the Hollywood movie stars, working with legends such as Frank Sinatra and on movies such as My Geisha. The brand has lines in hair, skincare, make up and accessories, but most famously known for its amazing cleansing oils and AMAZING, crazy but spectacular false eye lashes.
As a group we have to come up with a new fabulous marketing strategy for the brand, firstly thinking about a 1 year strategy then a 4 year growth plan.
I shall keep you posted.

Above: Collaboration with Victor and Rolf

P.s how amazing is the brand imagery. yum.

Universal Works

Definitely been meaning to blog about this for forever!!

Our first project as second years was to create a marketing strategy for the brand Universal Works.

My initial reaction when the website popped us was...oh dear god!! I think it was the choice of model that shocked me, and after researching, finding out that the brand has 'no target market, just garments for everyone'!? But after many a lecture from our tutors, David the brand owner and Martin, Davids sales man..i kind of came to like the brand. The clothes are really unique and i can see them selling really well, but this is a brand in desperate need of a marketing strategy, or at least a target market to begin with!
It was definitely stressful trying to get a grips with the brand because of its lack of strategy but once we had come up with our plan for the brand this project actually became quite enjoyable!
It will definitely be interesting to see where David takes this brand in the future! I'll keep you posted...!
Check out the website and our blog we created for the brand:
